Bluehaven Arts offers experiential outdoor enrichment classes September through May. Classes are held monthly with one class each week from 1 to 4 pm. In each class we cook, do art projects, learn about animals and a host of other types of experiential learning. Please read on for more info!
In each class students will create a new culinary masterpiece. Past projects include homemade ramen, pasta from scratch, Kentucky Butter cakes, hand wrapped egg rolls, oatmeal cream pies, fresh baked granola and so much more! Every creation is made from fresh, wholesome organic ingredients. Cooking projects are selected to introduce children to international and historic foods, develop cooking and math skills, and broaden their developing palettes. Within each class children will get to eat their creation, take some home to share with family in addition to the recipe to recreate at home!
Bluehaven's weekly classes include a rotating curriculum which always includes a unique art project, such as acrylic, watercolor, and fluid painting, sewing, mobiles, needle felting, alcohol inks, homemade soap, candles and masks, just to name a few. Our goal is to develop creativity, confidence and artistic skills through diverse and fun weekly creative projects.
Animals are an integral part of Bluehaven classes. Our school's menagerie includes the most loving dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, quail and a tortoise. We also have our neighborhood peacock, Sweet Pea, who loves to make surprise visits on a regular basis. In addition to learning and interacting with our variety of animals, we have many visiting creatures which include different breeds of rabbits, alpacas, tortoises, ponies, goats, and exotic birds. Our focus is to help educate children about the origin and importance of each creature, in addition to simply enjoying our time loving on these special beings.
Bluehaven has a regular lineup of brilliant artists and creators who visit to share their passions with our students. Among the regular guests are Acrylic artist August Patterson, Master Jeweler Dan Bender of The Studio 26, Coleen Castro of End of the Road Microfarm, Alison Gilbreath of Sutter Street Theater and Sacramento Theater Company, Master Beekeeper Roger Steel and Chalk Artist Michelle Ramirez of Shaded Fingers Chalk Art.
